New Members For Parish Council
Since I arrived at Nativity of Mary back in the summer of 2019, I had the gift and blessing to be able to set up the parish council again. Fr. Nel’s recommended some names to me, which I readily responded to since I did not know the parish community yet. These nine parishioners have been a wonderful blessing and gift to me over my three years at the parish and have assisted me in understanding the needs of parishioners.
As life has it, some of our members have moved, had health or life issues arrive, or are simply at the end of their term of service, and we are actively looking at some new members to join the council. To avoid the parish council turning into a popularity contest, we have decided not to have members that people would vote on, however, we are deeply desiring people who have a passion for the work to put their names forward.
The Parish Council meets on the Third Tuesday of every month shortly after the evening 6 pm Mass (~6:45 pm). Meetings typically last an hour and a half and cover a wide variety of topics. Meetings occur September through June and takes July and August off. The Council, by its very nature, is a consultative body that offers recommendations to the Pastor. It is a public role in the parish and thus would require your name, contact information and a photo to be shared with the parish community so that other parishioners know who to speak with if they have things that they want to have
discussed.
Members of the parish council need to be parishioners of Nativity of Mary Parish, who attend here on a weekly basis (barring travel/ work issues). They must have a great zeal and desire to help our community grow in the knowledge and love of Christ and service to our neighbor. Council members must be at least 18 years of age.
The Current Council members include, Linda Gross, Lydia Sokoto, Thomas Shearer, Judy Boulay, Zach Hoffman, Ryan Sueverkruepp, and the chair Steve Casalenda. We would ideally be looking for two more members this year, and two more for next year. If you are interested in apply for the council, please submit your desire to Steve Casalenda, via email: steve.casalenda@results.net
If you do not have access to email/ internet, you are welcome to simply write a request for an application to the Parish office with your name and number and I will readily contact you with the best next steps for the process.
Please pray for the Holy Sprits guidance, to lead the Council and parishioners in discernment surrounding membership for our council.
